Yes, Reading to a Baby is Important
A study done by the National Library of Medicine found that researchers, practitioners, and parents agree that parent-child reading interactions at an early age are an important development step in later literacy and language building.
Start reading to your baby as early as possible. They love cuddling and holding, and it builds a relationship of comfort and security which adds to the reading experience.
Combined with the assurances babies receive by spending time with parents, when reading aloud parents are building a rich network of words in their baby's brain. According to the Cleveland Clinic there are many benefits to reading to a baby. With the magic of books, there is also the magic of words that intrigue and stimulate listening and learning in the baby's brain.
To achieve the best outcomes from reading to your baby, make sure you read to them daily, and even add it as part of your bedtime sleep routine.
Read slowly, be dramatic, and change your tone according to what is happening in the story. Be prepared to read the same story over and over. Be prepared to read rhyming books. Babies enjoy and learn from both. By nine months they actually begin babbling with your storytelling.
According to Pediatric Magazine, a resource of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), babies that are read to regularly by six months had a 40% increase in receptive vocabulary by 18 months old.
Some of the books recommended for baby early reading are "Aussie Babies", "Boo!", Brown Bear Brown Bear", "Crocodile beat", "Everywhere babies", "How many kisses do you want tonight?", "I went walking", "Moo, baa, la la la!", "Polar Bear Polar bear", "Ten little fingers & ten little toes", "Ten little owls", and "Walking through the jungle".
Babies are very involved in storytime. Language skills, emotional learning, and memorization all happen during reading time. As a parent you want to provide them with all the skills that help with their development. Read to them!

Screen Time and
Babies
Parents are busy. Normal daily life like getting ready for work, helping other children with homework, or cooking dinner requires their full attention. So, what do we do if we are trying to juggle all these normal activities with an infant?
Sometimes when parents are super conflicted with time, there is a tendency to offer a baby digital tools or television to entertain. Infant and child studies agree that using these resources for the baby is not a good option.
During the baby's first year their brain cells are connecting and learning some of their most valuable life skills - how to think, move, and communicate. 90% of a baby's brain growth happens before kindergarten. There are ways to help develop a baby's brain growth, all which involve human and environmental interaction.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies younger than 24 months get no screen time at all. The only exception they make is for video chatting.
Studies show that the more screen time a developing brain gets, the more likely the child has to later experience attention problems. And attention problems impact learning.
Some of the most important ways to help develop brain growth are: talking to the baby, using serve and return practice, touching, and general playing. A baby's relationship with humans will be the most influential for their brain growth. However, remember good nutrition is also a necessary component of positive brain growth.
Limit screen time and have more meaningful interactions of play and talking. There are good tools of play that should be used instead of screen time in those realistic and daily instances of limited and hectic time.

White Noise and Sleep
White noise is a low-level background sound that is constant and creates a sound similar to humming. White noise is known to promote relaxation and quiet the mind. Sometimes a baby associates white noise with the soothing comfortable environment of the sounds in the womb.
In a study by the Archives of Disease in Childhood 80% of the babies they studied fell asleep within 5 minutes of being exposed to white noise. When using white noise it is important to keep the volume between a sound of a whisper and a soft lullaby.
In another study by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) it was found that many white noise machines exceed the recommended levels of 50 decibels of noise which can create later auditory and hearing problems. Therefore, when purchasing a white noise machine be vigilant when setting the decibels to not exceed greater 50. If you are unsure about the decibel level there are sound meter APPs that are available to give you a reading of the noise level. The AAP also recommends that you place the white noise machine no closer than 7 feet away from where the baby is sleeping. Once the baby falls asleep you should turn off the machine and not play white noise throughout the night.
Some examples of white noise are a whirling fan, a steady vacuum, running water, shushing sounds, rainfall, soft blowing wind, crashing waves, whale songs, and lullabies.
A baby might become dependent on the white noise to fall asleep. To avoid overdependence it might be helpful to use in combination with other sleep tools like a warm bath and bottle before bedtime.
Lack of sleep affects babies and parents, therefore being consistent and safe in your bedtime routine is as important as the tools that you use.

Smart Baby Devices
Smart baby devices help parents keep track of their baby’s health - by monitoring their movements and sleep patterns, utilizing temperature sensors, and even observing
their breathing. In addition, some baby smart products have night vision to monitor a baby even in the dark.
While there are many advantages to smart sensor products, parents need to be mindful that with technology there is always an opportunity for signal interference. Therefore, checking
their wifi and/or product efficiency regularly is critically important. Parents should never be solely dependent on smart monitors, and never should use them to replace parent presence with device presence. Smart devices are only to be used as a supplement or addition to parental care. A parent should continue with their important presence in giving love and
caring.
When a parent is considering whether a smart baby product is right for them and their baby, some of the products they have to choose from range from bassinets to changing pads to breathing wear to monitor socks to sound machines to camera monitors.
Smart baby products will help with infant monitoring, but will never replace parent vigilance and loving care.

Baby ESSENTIALS
Moms agree the following are additional items needed for a baby's daily care.
Pacifiers help soothe the baby especially when fussy. Sucking on a pacifier helps calm an infant experiencing discomfort particularly at night or when traveling in a car or airplane.
Swaddling can have a calming effect on a baby which helps them sleep better.
Night lights help a parent interact with the baby without turning on overhead lights and disrupting the quiet environment.
Baby wearing carriers help keep a baby close while also giving the parent freedom of movement.
Feeding a baby is an important part of a baby's development and helps parent and child bond, while also giving the mother an option and break from solitary feeding.
Bottle warmers are convenient and help the parent save time when the baby needs food quickly.
A baby bath tub helps provide a more secure and enjoyable experience for your baby while they are bathing.
Any difference in a baby's normal temperature is important. Baby thermometers help you determine if it's time to seek medical advice.
Frequent diaper changes help keep your baby clean, healthy, and free of rashes and infections.
